Application of Remote Sensing in Monitoring the Inter-tidal Resources in Jiangsu China

Jiangsu Province is one of the most important provinces in eastern coastal of China and holds about 1000 km coastline and a quarter of coastal resources of China. This Province is now programming exploiture of the coastal resources. This requires information on distributing and current status of the tidal zone. And this is necessary for the purpose of resources conservation. However the conventional in-situ measurements are expensive and time-consuming. In an attempt to monitor the coastal resources, a method combines conventional measurement data with remote sensing techniques has been introduced. In order to classify the inter-tidal zone along Jiangsu Province China, some relationships between infrared bright temperature(BT) from NOAA/AVHRR and elevation data measured on the spot are established with classified linear regression technique in this paper. With the BT thresholds derived from the relationships, the inter-tidal zone has been classified into five classes and the area of each class has also been calculated.
