Swelling behaviour of pump impellers made from a structural composite

The search for better pump materials is ongoing. In this article, Jurgen Timcke describes Rutschi Pumps' experience with centrifugal impellers made from one type of structural composite, known here as SC. At first glance, the advantages of using such a material are many, but over time a certain amount of swelling behaviour seems apparent. Timcke attempts to mathematically quantify the phenomenon, and considers the extent of the problems it could cause.
