Pigment preparations are frequently used in order to pigment liquid systems such as paint products, varnishes, emulsion paints, and printing inks. There still is a requirement for universal tinting systems that can colour both waterborne and solventborne base paints. This patent describes compositions that can act universally and are based on aqueous formulations:1) 10 wt% to 70 wt% of a colouring component comprising at least one colour pigment and if appropriate at least one filler;2) 0.1 wt% to 30 wt% of a surface-active additive component based on at least one phosphoric or phosphonic ester, which may be anionic or non-ionic;3) 0.1 wt% to 10 wt% of a non-ionic, surface-active additive component, based on at least one hydroxyl-containing acetylene or acetylene alkoxylate;4) 0 wt% to 20 wt% of an additive component comprising additives different from (2) and (3); and5) 1 wt% to 89.8 wt% of a solvent component at least comprising water.
