The author gives a brief,but detailed,account of electrostatic and steric stabilisation mechanisms for pigment dispersions,and the adsorption of various polymeric systems at the solid/liquid interface.This study evaluated the efficiency of polyetheralkanolamine comb polymers,consisting of a hydrophobic aromatic backbone(which has a strong affinity for the pigment surface)and hydrophilic polyether side chains(which dissolve in aqueous media and create the stabilising shell about the pigment particle),as dispersants for a variety of pigments.
