Genetic divergence in French beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) dwarf type cultivars

Mahalanobis D~2 statistics was used to study genetic divergence for 13 characters in a collection of 26 genotypes/lines of bush type French bean. These genotypes got grouped into six clusters on the basis of relative magnitude of D~2 values. The maximum number of genotypes (12) appeared in cluster II followed by cluster I (8), cluster III (3), while clusters IV, V and VI had only one genotype each. The inter-cluster distance was maximum between clusters I and VI, while the minimum inter-cluster distance was observed between clusters V and VI.
