摘要

Norway is an expensive place to live and operate a business; and the Norwegian salmon-farming company Salmus AS has been facing an increasing struggle with competition from less cosdy parts of the world such as Chile. With this in mind company principals recendy decided to move production operations - including hatchery faculties - to the remote western end of Iceland. Chairperson Matthias Gardarsson recently confirmed to this publication that he had been thinking of making the move to Iceland for some years; and said after 35 years of living and working in Norway and 20 years of operating Salmus, Norway had proved just too expensive for his small company. His son Kristian Matthiasson is expected to move to Iceland with his family to look after theproduction there, while the marketing and sales will remain in Leirfjord, Norway, where Gardarsson said he has some other factories and facilities. Gardarsson said the level of production in Iceland is going to depend of course on the ability of Salmu'sIcelandic subsidiary Arnarlax to obtain all the necessary licences for all its facilities and also the necessary personnel.
