摘要

New Zetland aquaailture scientist Jane Symonds wants to build better broodstock one species at a time. At her research lab at the National Institute of Water and Atmospherics Research (NIWA) Symonds and her staff have been developing elite broodstockprograms for three species: kingfish, hapuku and paua (abalone). "The challenge in New Zealand is to deliver premium aquaculture products while increasing returns from existing farm space," Symonds told Hatchery International. "This can only be achievedby cultivating new higher-value aquaculture species and fine-tuning the production of existing species."
