Because fish meal and fish oil supplies are finite, and will be insufficient to meet the increasing demand from aquaculture and other clients, ingredients from terrestrial plants will be required. In the January 2002 issue of Hatchery International, we examined the selection offish with enhanced genetic traits for digesting plant-based feed formulations. In this issue we examine the other side of the coin, the selection and development of suitable plants for formulating fish feeds.
