STANDARDIZATION OF IN SITU PATCH BUDDING TIME IN AONLA (EMBLICA OFFICINALIS GAERTN.)

Aonla (Emblica officinalis Gaertn.) has gained considerable importance in recent years due to its wide edaphoclimatic adaptability, multiple utility, prolific bearing habit and hardiness to biotic and abiotic stresses. It is commonly propogated by sowing the seeds of Desi aonla (small sized fruit) followed by patch budding in the nursery and then after 5-6 months, these plants become ready for plantation in the field. A major bottleneck in the extension of area under this fruit is the difficulty in the field establishment of young plants at transplanting.
