CORRELATION STUDIES WITH RESPECT TO SEED VIGOUR AND VIABILITY INOKRA

Correlation studies for different laboratory tests conducted on seed were undertaken on five okra varieties, stored for 180,360 and 540 days under ambient conditions. Standard germination had positive and significant correlation with Tz test of viability for all the three storage periods. Standard germination had also significant correlation with all the four physiological tests (speed of germination, first count, accelerated ageing and seedling vigour index) conducted to estimate the seed vigour forall the three storage periods. These four physiological tests were significantly related to one another. Out of the five-biochemical tests of seed vigour, standard germination had significant relationship with electrical conductivity of seed leachates,respiration rate of seed, per oxidase activity and Tz test for vigour for 360 and 540 days of ambient stored seed.
