It was attempted in this study to determine the effect of former farmland soils on biomechanics and stability of trees by analyzing axial variation in basic density of wood, bending strength of absolutely dry wood and that of wood with moisture content over fiber saturation point.The analyses were conducted on wood of Scots pines grown on four positions in northern Poland coming from mature stands aged from 97 to 102 years, growing on former farmland and on forest soils. Results showed significant differences in terms of wood properties analyzed in this study between compared groups of trees and at the same time indicated different stability of stands growing on former farmland soils in relation to trees growing on forest soils.
