Professor John Wong received his education and surgical training at the University of Sydney, Australia where he began his academic career. In 1975 Prof. Wong returned to Hong Kong, his birthplace, to join the faculty of the University of Hong Kong, becoming Head of the Department of Surgery in 1982. He has played a leadership role in numerous surgical organizations serving as President of the International Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Association, International Society for Digestive Surgery, Pan-Pacific Surgical Association and Asian Surgical Association. He has received honorary degrees or memberships from numerous groups including the American Surgical Association, the European Surgical Association, the Pan Pacific Surgical Association and the major surgical organizations of Colombia, England, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan,
