摘要

In his Jan. 21 inaugural address, US President Barack Obama called for his country to confront the reality of climate change and expand renewable energy usage, decrying skeptics and touting "the overwhelming judgment of science," proclaiming, "The path towards sustainable energy sources will be long and sometimes difficult. But America cannot resist this transition; we must lead it. We cannot cede to other nations the technology that will power new jobs and new industries." Despite these sweeping pronouncements, it is as yet unclear which specific pieces of legislation may be presented over the next four years in pursuit of environmental preservation goals, with the White House Press Secretary calling climate change, "one of a host of priorities" for the returning administration; concrete, policies for pursuit may be outlined in the president's Feb. 12 State of the Union address.
