US and UK crude oil futures prices climbed in the week to Feb. 1, but the US RBOB contract stole the spotlight, surging nearly 18￠/gal. The RBOB rally was sparked by news at the start of the period that US refiner Hess plans to close down its 70K-b/d Port Reading, New Jersey facility by end-Feb. for financial reasons, which is expected to further constrict the already tight market in the US Northeast.
