The EU reathes to imposes oil sanctions against Syria.

Mid-level representatives from all 27 European Union members agreed on Aug. 26 on a ban on imports of oil and refined products from Syria. The final consensus must be approved at the ministerial level in the week after. Nevertheless, several countries are concerned that the sanction would economically harm the region, since Europe is a major importer of Syrian oil. Germany buys 32% of Syria's oil exports, Italy 31%, France 11%, the Netherlands 9%, Austria 7%, and Spain 5%. In 2010, Syria's petroleum exports fell 7% year-on-year to 109K b/d.
