Boeing to test bio-jet fuel in China, advance partnership in US.

US-based aerospace firm Boeing plans to partner with Air China Ltd. and other firms to test a commercial bio-jet fuel (biojet) produced from a local variety of the jatropha plant grown by PettoChina. Testing will take place before June 2011 and help Boeing advance its plan to commercialize clean, alternative fuels worldwide. Boeing's first biojet test took place in London in 2008, and it has conducted four other tests since that time. Boeing executive Al Bryant commented, "We're focused on plant-based, sustainable, 'drop-in' biofuels so that you can fly to Chengdu [in China], fill up with a biofuel, and fly to Australia...and fill up with a petroleum-based fuel, and you don't have to clean the tank or drain it or anything. No modifications to the airplane engines would be necessary."
