In order to ensure stable supply and ease of distribution in the event of future natural disasters, the Japanese government announced on Sept. 6 its intentions to stockpile additional emergency oil reserves. "We...are working towards improving the national reserve system in light of the (March) disaster," a government official was quoted as saying. Exact details have not been agreed upon and officials are still debating whether to lower the amount of crude and raise the amount of refined products it holds or whether it would simply just increase the amount of product holdings.
