Genesis Energy to build new Louisiana rail terminal.

The US midstream company has announced that it will build a new rail-offloading terminal in Raceland, Louisiana, to provide a number of US and Canadian crude grades to area refiners. According to Genesis Energy CFO Bob Deere, the facility "isn't specifically purposed for any one type of crude" but is instead designed provide refiners with as much flexibility as possible, connecting to both the BNSF and Union Pacific railroads. The facility will not be equipped with the steaming gear necessary to unload undiluted oilsands bitumen, though Deere clarified that "diat's not to say that it can't be added in the future," and according to Robert W. Baird & Co. analyst Ethan Bellamy, can be expected to handle crudes of all sorts from across North America. Genesis Energy has completed the necessary engineering work and permit applications, made agreements with railroads, and is in discussions to extend the facility's pipeline infrastructure to serve the "vast majority" of Southeastern Louisiana refineries. Initially, the facility will be equipped with 400K bbl of storage along with pipeline infrastructure to provide crude to refineries in St. James and Baton Rouge. It will have the capacity to unload two unit trains per day, or approximately 140K b/d.
