Honeywell to provide tech for Iraqi and New Zealand refineries.

The US technology conglomerate company has announced that it has been selected to provide process technology—from Honeywell UOP—and automation controls—from Honeywell Process Solutions (HPS)—by Iraq's State Company of Oil Projects (SCOP) for the new refinery in Karbala. The refinery is being designed with a capacity of 140K-b/d 2020. It will have the ability to produce Euro V fuels and will cut into the 350K-b/d of products that Iraq currendy imports. Honeywell technologies to be deployed at the plant include UOP CCR Platforming and FCC processes, the UOP Penex process to produce isomerate from light naphtha, theUOP Unionfining process to improve distillate quality, and the UOP Chlorsorb process for catalytic reforming to meet waste gas requirements. Additionally, the Experion Process Knowledge System will integrate control and safety systems, including the company's Safety Manager system and fire and gas safety systems. Honeywell will also provide its UniSim training simulators.
