摘要

Have you ever tried to change the behavior of someone you care about? It was probably a very challenging process because behavior change is not easy and often does not happen as a result of educating people with hard facts (e.g., smoking is the leading cause of preventable death). People usually do not change their behavior unless a crisis occurs (e.g., death of a sibling at a young age) or their emotions raise, which then stimulates them to make a change. In academic programs, students are often taught how to promote the highest levels of health in people through behavior change strategies based on the transtheoretical model, which include assessing readiness for change and matching appropriate interventions to their patient's stage of change (e.g., precontemplation, contemplation; Prochaska, Prochaska, & Levesque, 2001).
