According to a National Oil Corp. spokesman, Libya's crude production has risen to 700K b/d despite the increasing violence between Islamist and nationalist factions in the country. All of Libya's oil export terminals are said to be online and under government control, but the news begs the question: what government's control? The country's interim government, led by Prime Minister Abdullah al-Thani, has dropped the reins of state, with officials submitting resignations to the elected parliament before fleeing to the eastern part of the country as Islamist militias swarmed over the capital of Tripoli. Only days before al-Thani's resignation, a rival governing body, the General National Congress, appointed Islamist Omar al-Hassi to take over and form a "salvation government."
