Bayerngas, the southern German utility in talks to become a new member of the Nabucco West pipeline consortium, still needs convincing that Caspian gas is in its best long-term interests. The recent appointment of Thomas Rupprich as acting Bayerngas CEO is unlikely to affect its long-term goal of securing new sources of gas, spokesman Dirk Barz told WGI this week. "Caspian gas should be a new pillar of supply and Nabucco is a corresponding tool to achieve that." But he said pricing should be "rational" - ideally gas-linked. Rupprich replaced Marc Hall, who had previously worked at Nabucco stalwarts OMV and RWE, and quit Bayerngas in mid-June to take a top job back home at Vienna-based Stadtwerke Wien.
