EU, US Back 'Clean' Natural Gas - For How Long?

Energy policymakers on both sides of the Atlantic appear to have started promoting natural gas as a clean fuel. In the EU, there are plans to allow some of the ?6 billion ($7.5 billion) expected to be spent on "clean energy" research from 2014 to 2020 to be devoted to gas (WGI Jun.20'12). In the US, the White House's top energy adviser, Heather Zichal, recently pledged to advance policies supporting gas development, and said the strategy will continue if President Barack Obama wins a second term.
