Producers shifting more of their portfolios to natural gas tout the fuel as the ideal bridge for power generators to a low-carbon world. But price is killing that argument across most parts of the globe. Even though prices are crashing left, right and center, natural gas is still too expensive in most places outside the US to encourage utilities to make the switch from coal.
