It may be the height of summer, but the UK power transmission system operator has already spelled out its plans to ensure the country gets through winter without problems. National Grid says the UK should have enough natural gas to meet demand, despite concerns about a more stringent production cap at the giant Groningen field in the Netherlands and reservoir pressure problems at Rough, the country's sole long-term gas storage site, that have cut its capacity by 25% (WGI Jun.24' 15). It described the threat of disruptions to the UK from the ongoing dispute over Russian gas supplies through Ukraine as "low" (WGI Jul.8' 15). Rough operator Centrica Storage said in June it should complete inspection work in September and provide an update before October, when National Grid is due to provide a general pre-winter update.
