摘要

Countries across the Mideast Gulf and North Africa are starting to keep a tighter grip on their gas reserves in order to feed growing domestic demand, adding to uncertainty over the growth potential for internationally traded gas(WGI Oct.18,p8).The region is already a huge gas market in its own right,Martin Trachsel,Shell Gas and Power vice president for the Mideast Gulf, told a Mideast conference at Chatham House in London this month. This will set the stage for greater competition between domestic and international demands for gas,he added, although Shell nonetheless sees scope for two more cross-Gulf pipelines,as well as an export pipe to Pakistan and India.
