Brussels Revives Turkmen Gas Pipe

The EU's new energy team is seeking to revive an initiative to build a trans-Caspian gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan, where it would tap into a new route being opened up across Turkey to Europe. On paper, it seems a perfect marriage. The EU is looking for new suppliers to reduce its dependence on Russia, while land-locked Turkmenistan is seeking new markets for its gas. In practice, however, the path to the altar could be littered with obstacles, not least opposition from neighboring gas producers.
