Solar PV Poised to Compete Commercially in Europe - Soon

Electricity generated in utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) parks could compete commercially with gas-fired generation in Italy by 2014, a new study by the European Photovoltaic Industry Association (Epia) maintains. Solar PV could be price competitive in Europe's four other top electricity markets -France, Germany, Spain and the UK - by 2020. Indeed, if electricity prices continue to rise and solar PV costs continue to fall, France and Spain could reach generation-value parity for utility-scale PV systems even sooner, by 2015, with Germany following in 2017 and the UK in 2019 (WGI Aug.31'11,p9).
