Qatar is implementing a stop-gap solution to replace the faulty equipment responsible for knocking out one-third of its LNG production since Jan.8,and it plans to begin producing LNG by Wednesday, with first cargoes shipping three days afterwards,Qatargas Chief Executive Faisal al-Suwaidi told WGI Monday.Qatargas-1-owned by state Qatar Petroleum(QP),Exxon Mobil,France's Total, and Japan's Mitsui and Marubeni-stopped operations almost two weeks ago on all three of its LNG trains.Al-Suwaidi blamed the outage on a"major technical fault"on multiple transformers that drive the water pump used for cooling. He said a single transformer failure happens occasionally, but for two transformers to go down at the same time is highly unexpected.
