Asia's LNG imports continued an impressive recovery in the first quarter, after a strong showing in late 2009 (p8). Shipments to Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, China and India rose by over 14% year-on-year, or by almost 4.4 million tons, to 35.11 million tons (18.7 billion cubic feet per day). Growth was led by respectable 10% jumps in Japanese and South Korean imports, while China maintained its spectacular growth streak, with intake surging to 1.85 million tons in the quarter from 859,000 tons a year earlier. Taiwan also recorded a 44% jump to 2.08 million tons. Only India saw a dip, of an estimated 1% to 2.02 million tons.
