The controversial restructuring of Russia's power sector has been delayed yet again,with the government deciding last month to push back the deadline for completion of the process until the end of 2008 rather than end-2006 as previously planned(WGI Aug.24,p7).Power monopoly UES - which supplies around 70% of Russia's electricity - will nonetheless continue to reorganize,spinning off new generation,distribution and sales companies from its 73 regional subsidiaries,which are ultimately to be sold off,while simultaneously consolidating its high voltage transmission grid into a new company that is to remain in state hands.This process has been largely completed at 52 of the 73 regional "energos."
