Both Cheniere and,more recently,BG have suggested that LNG has for all practical purposes limitless potential in the US market because it is profitable at prices well below the marginal cost of US domestic production - and can therefore gain market share to the maximum extent that supply becomes available(WGI Aug.l7,p8).An examination of the economics and operations in one of the most promising US gas plays suggests they may have a point.The Barnett Shale play in North Texas is one of the hottest gas producing regions in the onshore US at the moment.Drilling rigs go to work as quickly as contracts can be arranged,and some operators are building their own hardware to ensure availability.
