Saudi Gas Remains Trapped in Desert

Lukoil created something of a stir last month when Vice President Leonid Fedun suggested that test production could start in early 2014 from the Russian firm's almost-forgotten gas project in Saudi Arabia's Rub al-Khali desert. Could this mean that, despite years of inaction, the kingdom's upstream gas opening was finally yielding results? It seems not: Sources say 2014 production is unrealistic, and Lukoil has still to hammer out commercial terms (WGI May 15'13).
