Hopes of a boom in Chinese wind and solar power have been stirred by the imminent release of minimum quotas for non-hydro renewable electricity output as part of broader efforts to -clean up the environment. Regulators at the National Energy Administration (NEA) have submitted a consultation paper to the cabinet-level State Council that could be approved this month, a source at the China Renewable Energy Industries Association (CREIA) tells WGI. The proposed quotas, ranging from 2%-10% in 2015 and 5%-13% in 2020, are expected to put strong pressure on local governments and grid companies to act to address problems such as grid network inadequacy that are hindering the expansion of wind, solar and biomass, the source says.
