US natural gas prices plunged this week as late-December losses turned into a rout. Prices have fallen about 25% since November, when hopes for a more normal winter pushed prompt-month prices into the $3.90s. Forecasts for ever warmer weather initially pushed prices back into the $3.50s by mid-December and then to as low as $3.05 per million Btu on Jan. 2, before recovering into the $3-teens.
