摘要

Waste Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast from the brewing industry was tested for the biosorption of Cr from electroplating effluent. The role played by functional groups such as carboxyl, amino, sulfhydryl and phosphate groups, and lipids present on the yeast were evaluated using potentiometric titration and chemical modification. The extent of contribution of the functional groups and lipids to Cr biosorption was found to be in the order: carboxylic acids > lipids > amines > phosphates. The sulfhydryl group did not contribute to Cr biosorption.
