Economic Factor Carries More Weight in U.S.-European Relations

The author is the director of the Institute of European Studies under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. It is generally predicted that after the Cold War, the importance of economic factor in international relations will increase, and the economic war among the United States, Japan and Europe will unfold. Factors which will intensify the economic competitions and contradictions between the U.S., Japan and Europe are as follows: With economic life being increasingly internationalized, competitions from outside will become more widespread; major rivals in the competition match each other in strength, and are very close with one another in terms of economic scale, level and structure; as progress in science and technology accelerates, people mayswiftly narrow the gap between them, or widen it further; there are differences in government policies and "management style" of enterprises etc..
