Due to historical reasons, Hong Kong and Taiwan province are disintegrated from mainland China However, before realizing political integration, economic integration of mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan province has become an important phenomenon sincethe 1980s. This is called as the development of greater Chinese economy (GCE). The emergence of GCE is a result of the development in two major fields. The first one is represented by growing economic strength of the mainland. The mainland implemented the reform and open door policy in 1978 when its economy was close to collapse. Great success has been achieved, with the GNP quadrupled within only 15 years from 1980-95, and foreign trade more than 10 times higher during the same period. Another one isreflected in the integration trend among the economies of the mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan either through increasing trade, or by increasing capital investment What is significant is that the integration of those economies is going forward toward a more balanced pattern, i.e., interdependence, rather than just only one side dependents on another among them With Hong Kong soon transferring to the mainland, internal structure of this integration will be further strengthened It is reasonable to predict that economic ties between the mainland and Taiwan will be closer even political relations continue to be troublesome.
