Strong IPM Balance Meets the Challenge of Grape Mealybug: Effective strategies against this grape pest require integrating biocontrols, cultural practices, and chemicals
THE grape mealybug has become an increasingly costly pest to table grape growers. There are actually three different species of mealybug in California: one in the southern deserts (vine mealybug), one along the coast (obscure mealybug), and the grapemealybug in the San Joaquin Valley. This distinction is important, because the development of each pest on the vine and the influence of parasites and predators on control differ depending on the mealybug species involved. The grape mealybug, however,is by far the source of the most loss to table grape growers.
