However, eel demand for human consumption continues to grow, particularly in Asia. Consequently, because of limited glass eel supply from the wild and unsuccessful commercial glass eel production technology, the glass eel price has surged to a historic high. As a result, eel production has become one of the most difficult and challenging aquaculture industries in the world.
