Description and trends of the marine aquaculture sector of Greece 1985-1998

Mediterranean aquaculture production is characterized by the dominance of two species, European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) and gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata), which represent 48 percent and 50 percent of total production and about 10 otherspecies, all of For sea bass and sea bream, the production cycles for which are totally controlled at all life stages, so the majority of fry are produced in hatcheries.
