Geraldton civil engineer Jack Van Eck, who has worked closely with remote Aboriginal communities an much-needed infrastructure projects, has been named a WA Engineering Hero. The Institution of Engineers Australia makes the awards as part of Engineering Week in recognition of outstanding personal and professional efforts in engineering. Van Eck, the office manager of GHD in Geraldton, was one of four recipients of the award this year. "Jack is an admirable ambassador for our industry and an inspirational individual," said IEA WA division director Richard Usher. "The personal effort and concern he has shown, both with his local community and far the communities he works with in remote areas, epitomise what this award represents."
