摘要

The industry trend today in countries like Spain and Italy is to substitute class 2 cords for softer class 5 & 6 cords. There is more pressure to increase productivity and to decrease manufacturing costs. The following article describes the process to produce 150 mm{sup}2 class 5 cord directly from copper scrap that has been melted, pyrometallurgically refined and continuously cast by means of the Cosmelt Process that has been jointly developed by La Farga Lacam-bra (LFL) and Continuus-Properzi (CP). This process allows the production of Fire Refining High Conductivity copper (Cu-FRHC) wire rod to be drawn, at high speed, into 0.3-0.5 mm wire for use in class 5 cord production.
