REPORT ON INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE & TUTORIAL ON VSC TECHNOLOGIES FOR HVDC & FACTS25-26 MAY 2011 AT VIGYAN BHAWAN, NEW DELHI, INDIA

A two day International Conference on 'VSC Technologies for HVDC and FACTS was organised jointly by Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) and Central Board of Irrigation & Power (CBIP) at Vigyan Bhavan on 26th & 27th May 2011. The conference was preceded by a very informative half-day tutorial on the subject, conducted by Dr. M. Rashwan, President, Trans Grid Solutions (TGS) on 25* May 2011. The highlight of the two day Conference was addresses by three eminent engineers in the Power Electronic field namely Dr. Narain G. Hingorani (considered as father of FACTS technology), Dr. Mohd. Rashwan, President of Trans Grid Solution considered an authority on VSC based HVDC and Dr. K.R. Padiyar, Professor & Researcher on FACTS Controllers and author of several books & publications in HVDC & VSC technology. Apart from these three experts representatives of ABB, Areva, PGCIL, CPRI, BHEL and Siemens deliberated on different aspects of the technology. The conference was first of its type in India.
