Evaluation of the corrosion resistance of explosion-welded bimetals

摘要

Single-and three-layer bimetallic components, produced by explosion welding on a steel base, are characterised by retention of high intercrystalline corrosion resistance by the metal of the cladding layer.Explosion cladding of the bimetal on a soil base leads to formation of areas in the cladding metal susceptible to intercrystalline corrosion. Formation of high electrochemical heterogeneity in austenitic Cr-Ni steel is determined by an increase in the amount of heat generated in the weld zone leading to the occurrence of processes of high-rate diffusion in cold-worked metal and, probably, to the processes of non-diffusion mass transport.The method of measuring thermal EMF maybe used as an indirect method of rapid evaluation of corrosion resistance of bimetals produced by explosion welding. The data obtained using the thermal EMF method are in agreement with indirect evaluation of the intercrystalline corrosion resistance of the specimens of the bimetal.
