In late October ExxonMobil announced it had successfully drilled and tested two wells ahead of schedule in the remote Point Thomson Unit on Alaska's North Slope.The company had expected to complete the drilling process by the end of 2010. ExxonMobil, which has invested about $1.5 billion in the Point Thomson Unit, pointed out the project is vitally important to the upcoming Alaska gas pipeline development. An Exxon affiliate plans to build a 22-mile pipeline to carry fluids from the Point Thomson development to the existing North Slope network.
