Don't blame Tesco: We Brits spent over 65 billion xi last year on groceries, a third of it with Tesco. So they must be doing something right
I almost felt sorry for Tesco last month. Almost, but not quite. For then I was reminded that British retailing's class act had rung up profits of over 2 billion xi and was set for a commanding 30 percent market share So Sir Terry Leahy ar his team hardly needed sympathy from me. But the tirade of protest that greeted another set of sparkling Tesco figures surprised even this seasoned old hack However, I should have remembered that in many corners of the British media - where they rarely let the facts ge in the way of a good story - it is also customary to attack winners. However, at the risk of being accused of sucking up to the High Street giant, I can think of other food retailers that would have bee a more appropriate target for the media and others as they pour venom into the ongoing suppliersupermarket debate.
