Characterisation of wear behaviour of different microstructures in Ni-Cr-Mo-V steel

摘要

The wear behaviour of Ni-Cr-Mo-V steel (C: 0.35%, Mn: 0.68%, Si: 0.30%, S&P: 0.014% max, Cr: 3.10%, Ni: 0.40%, Mo: 0.11%, balance Fe) was studied under varying loads (up to 15 kg), and sliding velocities (up to 2 ms{sup}(-1)) for its six different microstructural states viz. martensite, hardened and tempered martensites, tempered at 225, 350,450,550 ℃ and bainite. The wear rate, at a constant sliding velocity, initially increased with increase in applied load, attained a maximum value and then decreased. All the microstructures exhibited mild/oxidative wear at low loads, severe/metallic/adhesive wear at high loads and oxidative wear (with decrease in wear rate), at higher loads. The wear rate, at a constant load, also increased with increase in sliding velocity, attained a maximum value and then decreased. All the six microstructures of the steel exhibited mild wear at low velocities, severe/metallic/adhesive wear at high velocities and oxidative wear (with decreasing wear rate) at higher sliding velocities.
