If, three years ago, you had asked 400 farmers if supermarkets were doing everything that could reasonably be expected of them to support British agriculture, it would have been rather like asking a field full of turkeys whether they were in favour of Christmas. So. unlike some of what I call the 'muck and nettles brigade,' Britain's ever vigilant army of agriculture journalists, who rarely see beyond the farm gate, I have a different view about the result of a vote at the Oxford Farming conference.
