BEWARE! Make sure you don't feed food safety fears

Food safety is a recurring theme. Since the BSE crisis public concerns have been greatly heightened. Indeed, the media has been feeding off such scares, and added to public anxiety. And meat producers are very vulnerable, partly because some of the scares have been linked to meat and partly because there are more stages in the production of meat products where potential problems could arise. The recent E. coli TD147 outbreak in Scotland which, it is reported, stems from beef products has once more brought the spotlight on meat production. The pig industry needs to note these developments and learn from them.
